Our Purpose
The nation of Haiti has an education crisis. More than 400,000 children in Haiti that have never attended school and thousands of other children are forced to drop out of school for financial reasons.
By 6th grade, 60% of children who began kindergarten will have quit school. By the final year of school, only 2% of students will be able to afford to reach graduation.
Education in Haiti is primarily private and rarely free. Many parents must choose between school and feeding their families. This should not be so!
For more than 22 years, The Mission Haiti has served children and families in Haiti and for the past 16 years our scholarship program has been the heartbeat of that service. Our sponsors have provided more than 15,000 scholarships and have helped hundreds of children beat the odds and reach graduation.
What is a scholarship?
Every year our scholarship sponsors provide hundreds of children who cannot afford to attend school with an annual $200 scholarship to cover the cost of a specific child's tuition at a quality, Christian, Haitian-led school in their community.
They also may receive books, uniforms, shoes, or other resources to help them stay in school throughout the academic year.
Scholarships are 1 to 1, with every child receiving their own, unique scholarship each school year.
This simple program, stands in the gap for parents who long to see their children break out of the cycle of poverty and ignorance, but who cannot afford the cost of education.
In a country steeped in vodou practices and deep suffering, Christian education offers children the light of Christ and gives them the chance to acquire the tools they need to fight for their futures!
